When sharing a video on a blog post, is it best to share it is as a landscape YouTube video OR as a portrait Instagram style video? Does it matter?
Asking because I am currently shooting videos completely in portrait for Instagram and TikTok – but will switch to landscape if it’s better to have YouTube videos within blog posts. And because it’s difficult to turn a portrait video into landscape – I just want to get it right..
I see many blogs feature landscape YouTube videos embedded into their posts, as opposed to portrait? Is there a reason for this? Is one better to have in a blog post than the other?

Our unofficial recommendation right now is to use the vertical/instagram-style video, because 80% of visits are mobile and this best matches the viewport. Landscape would likely lack the size needed on a small screen without rotating the phone.

Curious what you use for music if adding an Instagram style vertical video to a blog post.  On Instagram you can add great music but obviously don’t have the rights to it on the blog.

I know lots of FBP members use and recommend Soundstripe for adding music to videos. So you could always use Instagram’s music on the app, and then add different music from Soundstripe for your blog post. This is what the Pinch of Yum team does (read more about that here).

We shoot the videos in landscape and share them on our blog also in a landscape format. We then make (vertical) reels and shorts using the landscape videos.
