Hi!

I’ve tried to take pics and video of the recipes at the same time because I just don’t want to do the same recipe twice. However, I’ve found it to be too challenging. Any suggestions on how to do it?

PS. I take the pics with my camera and the videos with my iPhone.

Thanks!

Ana

Hi Ana,

I too have found that taking pictures and videos of a recipe at the same time is somewhat challenging.

Sometime back, I transitioned to using my iPhone (currently iPhone Pro 14) mounted on a tripod to take videos of recipe preparations. I use the 4K at 30 fps setting for the iPhone camera.

Once I have the videos, I import them into Premiere Pro and then export individual frames to use as process shots. This has been a huge time-saver for me!

Hi Chula ,

How do you change to 4K at 30 fps on your phone?

Hi Ingrid!

To change to 4K at 30 fps, go to Settings. Scroll down and select Camera. Select Record Video, and check 4K at 30 fps.

Hi Chula,

Thanks so much for this advice! It has been such a time saver for me. I am using Final Cut Pro, which also has an export frame feature.

Thanks everyone, I was also hoping to be able to do this. I used to do this years ago with another website and was wondering if it would be successful with food videos too.

Hi Chula,

What does 4K at 30 fps do? I really need to get more consistent with video, but I do not want to do video and photos at the same time. It seems too time consuming.

Thanks,

Hi Cree!
If I remember correctly, the default fps (frames per second) and resolution on my iPhone 14Pro is 30 fps and 1080P.

At the end of the day, my main objective is to efficiently produce the best quality videos and photos with the smallest file size. However, I like to start with the higher 4K (2160 x 3840) resolution and reduce the file sizes from there.

I use Premiere Pro to edit the vertical videos and set the Sequence Settings to 720 x 1280. For me, 720 x 1280 is plenty of resolution for web-based videos. I’ve played with different Presets when exporting the videos and found that “Match Source – Medium bitrate” produces the smallest video size of the presets that I tried. I use the videos for Web Stories, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Facebook Reels, and Pinterest Idea Pins. Not sure why, but I stopped doing TikTok. For the Web Stores, I further reduce the file size using FreeConvert.com.

For the photos, I use Photoshop and ultimately crop the individual frames from the 4K video to 1200 x 1600 with a resolution of 72 and then use File=>Export=>Save for Web (Legacy) to further reduce the file size.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
