Hello,

I have a Canon EOS Rebel T7. Lately, my original battery has weakened. It takes longer to charge and loses its life faster. So, I went ahead and purchased new batteries (which was the LP-E10). However, when I went to charge the batteries, it took even longer to charge, and it lost its energy just as fast.

Sadly, my camera does not have the battery performance feature because it’s a T7 (one of the only canon models without this feature), where I can see and confirm if it’s a dead battery. However, I should assume it’s not, since I just bought it. But it’s acting like a dead old battery.

Should I just buy another set and try again or is there another issue at play?

Any advice would be helpful. 🙂

Thanks!

Hi Audrey,

Did you buy original Sony manufactured batteries or were they sold as “compatible” with your camera?

I wouldn’t hesitate to return the batteries you bought. I’ve found it is best to buy original batteries made by the manufacturer of your camera because the off brands that say they are compatible don’t last as long.

Hope that helps and if you have any other questions please ask!

Cheers,

Annette

Hi Annette,

Thank you, yes that does help. I was looking up the battery on canon.com, and wow, it’s $60 vs. like $10. But if it solves the issue, then I guess it’s worth it.

I also found this 2-pack on Amazon (the only other option I found), but it seems to be manufactured by Al’s Variety, Canon Int. Not sure what that means exactly. But it seems to be produced by Canon..

Thanks again,

Hi Audrey,

I would go ahead and buy the original battery if you can; it will be worth it. The ones you found on Amazon could be ‘grey’ market meaning they are made in another country. I’d avoid those too.

The proper way to condition a battery is to charge it fully when you get it and then use it until it is out of juice and then charge it fully again. Do this several times in the beginning of its use and you will get a longer life out of it because you’ve conditioned it to use the full capacity of the battery. If a battery is sitting on a charger all of the time it lessens its charge-ability and will go dead faster too. So remember to take it out of the charger once it’s ready. And, if you can afford two, that is ideal. Nothing like shooting the critical shot and the battery goes. Arg…. 🙂

Cheers,

Annette

Ok thanks for the advice, Annette! yes, definitely don’t want my camera to go dead in the middle of a photoshoot!

Have a happy Easter!

Hi Audrey,

I have a Canon 6D Mark II and I use this power adapter that has a dummy battery. You never have to worry about losing battery power, or replacing batteries. I’ve been using mine since 2021 with no issues. It’s currently $23 on Amazon. Here’s the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D68YXOQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Best,

Lee
