Hi Meghan! I am also very new to food blogging (started a few months ago) and I have an Instagram page that I started about 2 months ago but like you don’t have many followers. But I have found that following other people with similar interests who have smaller pages (like less than 2000 followers) and liking around 5 of their posts encourages them to do the same back. I think once we start getting over 1000 followers it would hopefully happen more organically. Also, apparently reels get more views so maybe add more reels to you page? I just followed you on instagram btw (I’m the cozy vegan kitchen) and your photography is amazing! Best of luck!!

Hi Everyone!

My name is Meghan and I am new to Food Blogger Pro and I am excited to learn all the tricks of the trade! I only launched my blog and IG account back in Aug ’24 and the growth on Instagram has been slow. Like really slow. I have not broken 100 followers yet and I have not gained a follower in 2 months! Being a new member to this platform I have not been able to dive into all useful materials yet but I did take the course on Instagram and watched the social media class on growing your business to 500k followers. There were definitely some great tips in there but I feel everything suggested is for people who already have a bigger following, like 500 – 1500. Being sooo small I am looking for advice and / or tools that have worked to get over the stagnanr hump in Instagram. Any advice is welcomed! 🙂

Okay, following up!

Kate said that text on images actually shows up in Pinterest search, so it can be beneficial to include it. She also suggested including qualifiers on the image (like vegan, gluten-free).

She also said that photos > video on Pinterest right now.

Brita — this is so interesting to hear!

As part of my work with a food blogger (Hummusapien) I’ve been managing Pinterest and we’ve just noticed a trend that when we post something different (i.e. using a different pin format/template) we seem to get a boost. When we just keep posting the same format over and over again (even with different recipes, captions, etc.) traffic seems to decline. I wonder if that is at play here? I’m planning to ask a question about this during the Q&A! Will report back.

Hey Brita!

I’ll feature this post in our weekly member email so we can get some more insights on what seems to be working for other members on Pinterest but in the meantime, I’d definitely recommend tuning into today’s Live Q&A with Kate Ahl from Simple Pin Media about how to unlock success on Pinterest! You can submit any questions that you have ahead of time or in the live event. And if you can’t make today’s Q&A, the replay will be available for you to check out, so keep an eye on your email inbox for that. 🙂

Hi all! I would love to hear what is working well for you on Pinterest right now? I’ve somewhat neglected my Pinterest lately and we’re still pinning there but don’t have a clear set strategy. I’d love to hear what your strategy is and what seems to be working most for you there.

I’ve always relied heavily on video there but I was surprised to look at my analytics and see that simple photos with NO TEXT are actually what is performing best there now.

I’d appreciate any insight you have! thanks!!

Hi Kate,

Thanks for your response. I will look into the pointers you have given when the holidays are over.

I will write back here with what I find.

All the best

Hey Ben!

We were just talking about this for another client.

I do think that refreshing older content and creating new images on new templates might still work. However, as we know, those new Pins will take quite awhile to gain significant exposure and traction. So messing with template design is something to consider. So….I would do it sparingly but focus mostly on the new content.

Another thing we’re trying is rewriting an older post then posting brand new pin. Leave the old up but add new tweaks and post semi-new with a new title. Example — if you have a really popular chocolate chip recipe, how can you create a spin off with a new blog post and pin.

Also, video seems to be doing well for some and not for others.

All that to say…we are a bit in weird land right now even with our clients and we’re digging in some more and doing some UTM tracking. I also am digging in on Tailwind’s new study to see if I can glean and new tips from that. https://www.tailwindapp.com/pinterest-marketing/research/2025-benchmark-study-part-1

We will be at Tastemaker and would love to chat!

Hey @Kate, I hope you are doing well (and maybe see you in January at Tastemakers?)

Are you still recommending to create new pins for old post. I have really seen my traffic from Pinterest get HAMMERED the past year. Combine it with a little Google shenanigans and it hasn’t been awesome. My second-highest-traffic driver (Pinterest) has plummeted. (sad face)

I used to make new pins almost daily for existing content, but have backed off on that. Maybe I go back to that, but I hear that is not wanted anymore.  If I post a new recipe, I put it through my Tailwind rounds with 3 or for different pins and to several boards.. If I edit a post, I will do the same.  I have some posts out there for years now that might have two dozen unique pins over time.

I am really looking for a reasonable basic strategy for a person who has a bit of content out there over a few years now.

Thanks!

Ben
