I’d also recommend Feast’s Plugin Audit page! It’s a great resource for checking the compatibility of various plugins.

They specify that these three recipe card plugins are compatible with Feast:

  • WP Recipe Maker
  • Create
  • Tasty Recipes

Hope that helps!

Hi Daniel!

I have the Feast plug-in theme and Tasty Pins and have had no problems. You don’t have to worry about a compatibility issue between Feast and a recipe plug-in as much as you should consider how the recipe plug-in works for your needs and whether it’s a quality plug-in.

From what I’ve read about other blogs, most people use WP Tasty or WPRM. I have used both and prefer Tasty, but WPRM worked well and has a free version. Also, I switched from WPRM to Tasty, and the changeover was pretty seamless.

You can’t go wrong either way, and both work with Feast. I had 3 other free or inexpensive themes before purchasing Feast, and if I could go back, I would’ve just started with Feast. For me, it was a money thing, and I wasn’t sure if I would stick with blogging, so using a free or $20 theme was a “safe” choice at the time.

I’m honestly unsure if the forced pinning issue is still a thing. I also use Tasty Pins which allows me to choose which photos on the post are re-pinnable and which are locked. In my opinion, if someone wants to pick the photo they pin from my post, it’s fine with me. At least they’re doing it!

Hope that helps!

Hi Ann,

thank you it will be nice to have direct feedback form someone who have had direct experience using both.

I’ve contacted Feast support and this is the reply I got from them:

“There are no conflicts with Tasty Recipes and the Feast Plugin Starter. It’s a recipe card, which is another required component of running a successful food blog along with a theme.”

I’m going to give it a try myself and give you update with my experience.

Cheers!

Hey Daniel,

I would think that the two would be compatible, but I can’t say for sure. It might be worth reaching out to Feast’s team to see if they have a better read on this! We had a member post in the forum about the two plugins a few years back, and the only red flag that came up was that their force pinning feature stopped working — since this was so long ago, the issue has likely been resolved.

That said, I’ll add this post to our weekly member email going out tomorrow to see if anyone else has insights to share here!

Hi Daniel!

Another member recently posted asking for recommendations for email marketing platforms here. Kit (formerly ConvertKit) has a Newsletter plan that’s free and it allows you to build your own landing pages. You may want to check that one out first!

Hey everyone,

I’m very excited to build my blog and I’m committed to build something appealing that I can be proud of. I’ve read that Feast is the best theme to get started and also that WP tasty is a very recommended recipe car plug in.

Are Feast Starter plugin and WP tasty plugin compatible? Would yo recommend to start the blog with both tools? If not, what would you recommend me?

Thanks a lot!

I want to build an email landing page where I will deliver a guide in exchange for the emails. I’m not ready to start sending a newsletter because I’m just starting out but I know how important emails are and I want to collect them form the get go.

I heard the podcast about Milotree and also checked her podcast (Blogger Genius) and the website looks very appealing. However it seems like convertkit is more popular.

Not really sure if they offer a similar product or what are the differences. I would like to know which one (or if there is any other recommended tool) to collect emails and in the future send the newsletter.

Thank you!

Hi Ann,

Thanks so much for your extensive response!

I’ve gone ahead and grabbed the Restored 316 Child theme Black Friday sale, to get the Rosemary theme with 25% off already, so your response confirms it was certainly the right investment. I opted for the ready “Start Here” page instead of Opt-in template in the end.

As for the front end building, I didn’t find it overly helpful to begin with, so I already did most on the backend. I also want to change the site from my current setup, pretty as I find it, to a much more user friedly approach, so I guess I’ll mainly keep the color scheme and logo.

And yes! That was exactly the company I was looking for, thanks a lot!

Cheers,

Sonja

Hey Sonja!

Divi can sometimes be heavy on resources because it’s a page builder theme, and while it’s easy to use for drag-and-drop editing, it can slow down your site as it loads a lot of assets. If site speed is important to you (and it should be, especially for food blogs where mobile users are frequent!), switching to Kadence can be a game-changer.

Kadence is known for being lightweight and fast while still offering plenty of customization options. As a food blogger, speed is crucial—not only for SEO but also to improve your user experience. Kadence has fewer built-in features that bog down your site, so it tends to load much faster.

The switch can be a bit tricky if you have a lot of custom design work done in Divi. You’ll need to rebuild your content using Kadence’s block-based design system, which may require some effort. If you’ve done a lot of design work on the front end with Divi, you’ll probably need to manually recreate things in Kadence. The good news is that Kadence has a block-based approach that integrates well with the WordPress block editor (Gutenberg), so once you get the hang of it, it’s much simpler and more flexible in the long run.

Opt-in pages are important for building your email list, and as you likely know, email marketing is a powerful tool for food bloggers to keep readers engaged, promote new content, and drive traffic to your blog. If you’re planning on scaling your blog and integrating email marketing, an opt-in template could be a smart investment.

However, that €100 difference is something to weigh carefully. If your focus is primarily on the content of your recipes and blog posts, you might not need the extra template features right now. You can always build an opt-in form and landing page with free or more affordable tools like Mailchimp or ConvertKit.

As for the website setup service, I think you may be referring to CultivateWP’s service called CultivateGo, our sponsor from this episode. 🙂

I hope that helps, Sonja!
