Hi there,

I’m hoping Kate can provide input.

I would like to know the recommended dimensions for Pinterest pins?

Is there an advantage to manually posting pins/fresh pins to Pinterest vs using a scheduling tool?

If you’ve created a pin say today and pinned it to Pinterest, how long should you wait before pinning a fresh pin with that same URL to Pinterest? Hope that makes sense.

I know Pinterest growth is a marathon and not a sprint but how often do you recommend pinning to Pinterest?  I also know that it’s about consistency but for someone who’s trying to get back into Pinterest how often do you suggest pinning?

How many Pinterest boards do you recommend?

Thanks,

Hi there,

I thought I would circle back around to see if anyone could offer advice and/or feedback.

Thanks so much.

Hi Cree!

Regarding Pin dimensions, Pinterest recommends using images that are 1000 x 1500 pixels or have a 2:3 aspect ratio. I’ve also asked Kate to weigh in here, but in the meantime, have you checked out these threads (here, here, and here) in which Kate shares her insights around pinning strategy? I think they should help to address most of your questions!

Hi!

I’m sorry for the delay. These are great, and very common questions. Let me help.

1. 2:3 is the best ratio. Square would show up for product images but that’s not recommended. Stick with this.

2. No advantage to manual scheduling. It’s an old myth. And truthfully, you’ll get a greater return when you schedule because you’ll actually remember. 😉

3. If i created a pin today I would pin it to board A today, board B in a few weeks, board C in another few weeks. Then after that I wouldn’t pin it again for 6 months or so. But I can create another image for that URL and pin those again. I ignore the word FRESH, it’s from an old model in 2020. Just think of it as new.

4. How often you pin depends on how much content you have. I do about 7-10 pins per day but I also have 400 posts and several different pin variations.

5. You can have as many boards as you’d like. Just make sure they fit your topic of content.

🙂

Hey Kate,

Thanks so much for your time. For clarification –

When you say, “But I can create another image for that URL and pin those again.” I’m assuming you would follow the same schedule, for example, pin it to board A, board B in a few weeks, board C in another few weeks.

But, how long would you wait before pinning that “new” image with that same URL. Would you wait a week before pinning that new image from the time you had first pinned an image with that same URL?

Thank you, Ann!

I see that Cree already asked Kate from Simple Pin Media the same follow-up question I have, so I will be waiting for Kate@ SimplePinMedia to answer this as well.

Best,

Dalit

Great follow up.

First, there are no hard and fast rules with this and nothing that will get you into “trouble” with Pinterest. People throw around different time frames but I like to tell people to spread out your content so if I came to your profile it wouldn’t look like the same pin over and over.

Here’s an example — I have two images for my 1 post. They look completely different not to trick the algorithm but to target different keywords and see if i can get a different type of pinner to click. Pin A follows what I said above. But i can also put pin B into rotation. Pin A might go out on Sunday and Pin B might go out on next Wednesday. So i can wait a week OR I can put them both into rotation during the same week.

The first pin you pin to your board has the most impact for the algorithm. From there it’s seeing if you can get some extra boost or distribution.

I’m hoping that helped and didn’t make it more confusing.

Don’t overthink it. If you focus on what you think the pinner will like in the images, don’t pin them back to back, you’re good.

@Kate – I forgot to mention that seeing that I’m getting back into Pinterest after a few years of being away from it. Can I go in and clean up my boards by deleting ones that I don’t want or are no longer relevant to me at this time? Can I delete pins? Should I keep ones that people have commented on? I didn’t even know that my pins were receiving really nice comments. Well, I guess I should keep those. But, I want to clean-up my boards before fully diving back in.

Thanks,
