Bjork, you’re a very gifted interviewer. I listened to this on a day I was overwhelmed with fear and lacking motivation to work on my blog and food photography. It was so refreshing and helpful to hear about Ashley and Gabe’s struggles with the creative process and where they turn for inspiration. My biggest takeaways are that bloggers feel fear and “The Resistance” at every level of success. I also discovered some great ways to work through the fear and suggestions for future resources. I am going to run out and buy the War of Art audiobook and maybe dig into some art books on food stilllifes for inspiration. Thank you again, Bjork and Lindsay for being awesome. 🙂 Love you guys! Also… cookies rule. 😉

And every time, there’s something new that I learned. I loved listening to Ashley and Gabe, and learning the process behind their food blog. What I love most is Ashley’s advice on just studying the fundamentals and using that to create better photography and creating new techniques. I feel I can relate to that. I have to study the composition of other food photos to learn how to create a more natural imagery. Thanks for all these interviews and podcasts, Bjork and Lindsay!

I especially love the piece about pushing past the resistance. Ashley and Gabe are hugely inspiring! Also, I want you to know that I love the whole podcast overall and it is my most favorite podcast to listen to each week. Thank you for asking such great questions Bjork and Lindsay!

I was really inspired by what Ashley said about the quote from “The War of Art”: “If you’re not terrified of what you’re doing, you’re not doing the right thing.” Finding the balance of having just the right amount of fear in what you are doing is new to me, but I definitely think I should implement it more! 🙂 Of course, this was just one instance out of many where something kind of just clicked in my head. Another big one was when Ashley said not to wait until your skills were perfected and then go, “Ok, now I’m ready to do X” because that will never happen. I am naturally inclined that way, so it was a good reminder to “Just Do It”. Anyway, thanks for putting the work into making this podcast for all of us to enjoy! And for anyone who may be in doubt about those cookies (??? does such a person exist?), they are hands-down, no joke, the absolute BEST chocolate chip cookies I have ever tasted, and I am forever indebted to Ashley for creating them. Thanks Ashley! <3 <3 I think I’m going to have to make them ASAP whether I get the mix or not! 😀

I just wanted to say, hi Meggan!

I was reading through the comments and visiting everyone’s food blogs. When I stopped by your blog, I immediately noticed that you’re also a So Cal food blogger. I’m brand new to the world of food blogging, like I haven’t officially launched yet but hope to this next month, kind of brand new. (I’m going to have to apply Ashley’s advice about not waiting until i’ve perfected my craft, before I put it out there).

When I read your comment, I totally related to your statement about gobbling up Mixergy and SPI podcasts like they’re going out of style.
I will have to look into the Five Minute Journal and Miracle Morning routine and give them a try.

Let me know if you have any luck finding a good Mastermind group, or would consider starting your own? I’ve been doing everything on my own, from designing my website and logo, all of the photography and recipe development, and learning how to build a business… It would be really nice to be able connect with someone local, who’s also in the food blogging trenches. Wouldn’t it be AWESOME if we could somehow form a local mastermind group that supports, encourages and keeps each other accountable?!?

Anyways, I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. No worries, if you don’t have time to connect. I totally get it, as a mom, wife and solo-preneuer, we have a lot of our plates, and it’s difficult to find time for anything extra.

I wish you continued success with your blog!

-Ann

As always there are so many great take aways. Here’s a list of some of the biggest take aways for me:

1. Fear, NOT the enemy, but rather a sign that you’re probably doing the right thing. Instead of fighting it, embrace it, push through it, and keep creating.

2. It was enlightening to hear how quick and efficient Ashley’s photography and editing process is. Hearing this really makes me consider changing my current work flow.

3. For every photo shoot, experiment with an extra, out of the ordinary look from a different perspective or using a different lens. This is a great way to continue to learn and grow and hone your photography skills.

4. Clearly communicate with your spouse your needs and schedule for the week, so that you can both be on the same page with everything that is going on.

5. Books to Read:

Bird By Bird by Anne Lamott

War of Art

6. Just DO it! Don’t wait to perfect your craft to put it out there. You have to start somewhere.

I’ve listened to almost every one and loved them all and I’ve learned a TON, even though I’m not a food blogger. The thing I learned that stuck with me the most from this podcast was the bit about the resistance…I guess I never really realized that everyone, much less the creatives of the world, experienced that difficulty with saying you’re going to do something and then delaying and delaying the actual execution of it, so it was especially encouraging to hear how they approached that difficulty. It was also very inspiring to hear their advice about just jumping in and doing the thing you are passionate about, without being afraid to be vulnerable. So good. Thank you for your wise words, Ashley and Gabe!! You guys are awesome! (And so are you, Lindsay and Bjork…big fan!)
